When creating a new shot, I did lots of preparation including: thumbnail drawings, video reference; sometimes I would select the most important poses from the reference and rotoscope them to help learn body mechanics and acting.

A while ago I decided to practice my drawing and storytelling skills by picking a random word from the dictionary and creating a scenario around it. Here you can see a few of them along with the word chosen.

Sometimes during certain business classes I found myself doodling faces based on
classmates (girl with the slicked back hair and baggy eyes; Spartan beard man)

or inspired by a movie or tv show,

expressing my emotion (find the human with flesh melting off during a Microsoft Excel class),
or sometimes just to explore shapes.

Sketch Along With Me!

Sketching is fun, but random. I don't know what to do with them. You'll notice several common elements in my drawings. 1) Mickey Mouse: He is my favorite 2) Faces: People are interesting to draw, especially faces and expressions. 3) They are incomplete. They also have a nice, loose quality to them that can be more appealing than some of my polished drawings. Drawing with pen forces me to make quick but thoughtful choices, which strangely feels more liberating and creative when in the process.

Note: I use to draw Pocahontas a lot when it was being released to theaters, so I wanted to see if I could still draw her . . . result = not great.

A pseudo Tinkerbell appears b/c I drew what I knew from memory . . . Result = not great. But it was fun. You'll also notice the word "franchise above her, hmm...

I work to pay for school. At work, customers can be . . . not nice. I'm the type of person that likes "feel good" movies. Not a good combination. I haven't drawn for fun in a while ( and it shows, but w/e).

So I've already started my 2nd quarter at Animation Mentor. Actually, I'm now into week 3. Wait! What? . . . Already?

Goodness, time needs to slow down.

Here are some drawings I made that will be used to create decorative wood cutouts for an orphanage. The theme is "Christmas in Florida" and the children are having a water balloon fight instead of a snowball fight. The double pigtail girl will be driving a boat that is being led by two dolphins (instead of reindeers).

Guess what everybody (and by "everybody" I mean "mom"), I'm going back to school! Yay!

Today marks the first day of my Animation Mentor exploits. This is an exciting time where life is a little kooky and uncertain but I'm working hard to make a specific dream a reality. It is an 18 month venture that will surely be worthwhile.

Well, lets get started shall we?!

This was created during my senior year of high school. I found a toy block stranded on the floor of my bus and used it as inspiration for my sculpture. As the title states, each image on the block represents a memory, most of which deal with my younger brother who was pretty new at the time : )

Wow! it's been a while since I last updated this blog. Well, I've been busy learning how to rig and create blend shapes for the two characters. I had to do some re-texturing (because of problems with said rig) and am now ready to ANIMATE! Finally! oi vei. Well, here is a test render with the same background as the image below and I feel that the short film will have a very nice look to it. Here's hoping.

The Wonderful World of Color!!!

I've been developing the color schemes for the main characters recently and I'm finding this to be very difficult because there are so many choices one has to pick from. . .and if you know me, I have a hard time making decisions. Needless to say my decision making skills are going to be very polished by the time I graduate in May. Woo Hooo! Here are some of Wagner's color choices. Note that the action will take place at night, which makes things a little more confusing. C'est la vive.

In addition to color, Blend shapes are being created for the mice. Everything is moving along nicely.

An Epically Tiny Tail

You can't have a movie that involves mice without using the word "Tail" instead of "Tale" in the title. It's like a rule or something.

Here is the updated storyboard with voices. It was an educating and fun experience recording the dialogue. Delilah is voiced by Stephanie Trilli and Wagner is voiced by Kyle Manecci.

So . . . finding time to work on an animated short film while taking five classes is kinda' hard. I've finally completed Delila's model and she looks alright. Up next, rigging and texturing. Also, the story has been altered several times since the first storyboard posting. I hope to have the latest (and final) storyboard up soon.

Haha, this title makes me laugh (in my brain). So here's the story, I was working on modeling Delila's face about two nights ago and was almost finished when Maya suddenly crashed on me! Like a dodo head, I didn't save. Oi! I was sleep deprived with nothing to show. Here I show you the new progress on Delila. Her body was modeled by Charles Carver and I am eternally grateful for his help, any contribution is great.

Well. . .the male mouse is complete. I'm sure minor adjustments will be made, but for now he is complete.

Now he needs to be rigged (given a skeleton). That should prove to be a challenge, but what's life without some obstacles, oh yes. . .good. sigh.

Yeah, I'm a model-er

I've begun modeling the male mouse's body. Mario Afu is (hopefully) going to model the heads for both the male and female mice. Charles Carver will be modeling the female’s body. A little crazy, but necessary. Here are some screenshots of early modeling.

Hi Everyone,

This blog was created to showcase the progress of a currently untitled animated short film to be completed by the end of the Fall 2007 semester at UCF. Will it be difficult? Yes. Time consuming? Yes. Worth it? It better be or I might have to punch someone in the throat. Please be patient as I figure out this whole "blogging" thing. I hope to have the storyboard up soon. Until then, pray for my sanity.
